Who’s Idea Was This?
Hello, my name is Amy Temple-Clark and I am the Northern California Community Development Manager for the Nor Cal MS Society. I was diagnosed with MS in 2002 and I am very passionate about serving the MS Community in the North State. The purpose of this benefit is to create MS awareness in the Chico community and raise some money for my favorite charity. All proceeds will go to Walk MS North State.
We have put together a fun event filled with great beer from Chico’s own Sierra Nevada Brewery, scrumptious vino from Counter Punch Wines and tasty faire from Blush Catering. To delight your ears and help you get your groove on,The Brothers Comatose, John Craigie and The Mondegreens will be front and center stage. Please come out and join us for an awesome night of food, music, tantalizing raffle prizes and delicious spirits.
Who is This Benefit For?
This benefit is for the Northern California Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Northern California Chapter serves 40 counties and 84,000 people affected by MS. The Chapter is a lifeline for people living with MS; by providing reliable knowledge, engaging and innovative programs and services, financial assistance and a sense of community. Their vision is: A World Free of MS. Until a cure is found, the NMSS will continue to mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.
What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease which affects the central nervous system. In an MS patient, immune cells in the central nervous system mistakenly attack the myelin sheath which provides a protective coating around nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Although the scientific community is getting closer to understanding what causes MS, an exact cause is still unknown. There are 4 different types of MS: Relapsing-Remitting, Primary Progressive, Secondary Progressive and Progressive Relapsing MS. MS can be a debilitating disease, however it affects everyone differently and there are varied treatment optional available for MS patients.
