Who’s Idea Was This?
Hello, my name is Amy Temple-Clark and I am one of the leaders of the NMSS Support Group here in Chico and have been living with MS for 11 years. I struggled with disability for a few years after being diagnosed in 2003, but for the last 7 years I have been fortunate to benefit from an MS medication that is very effective for me. The purpose of this benefit is to create MS awareness in the Chico community and raise some money for my favorite charity.
With the help of my brother, Mike Temple, we have put together a fun event filled with great beer from Chico’s own Sierra Nevada, scrumptious vino from Counterpunch Wines and tasty faire from the Chico Chuckwagon. To delight your ears and help you get your groove on: Dick and Jane, John Paul Gutierrez, The Perpetual Drifters and The Amblers will be front and center stage. Please come out and join us for an awesome night of food, music, tantalizing raffle prizes and delicious spirits!
Also, I don’t want to forget to mention that our support group meets on the first Monday of every month at the Enloe Rehab Center on East Ave at 5:30. Anyone living with MS or caring for another with MS is welcome to attend.
Please come out and raise some money for a great cause!
Who is This Benefit For?
This benefit is for the Northern California Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Northern California Chapter serves 40 counties and 84,000people affected by MS. The Chapter is a lifeline for people living with MS; by providing reliable knowledge, engaging and innovative programs and services, financial assistance and a sense of community. Their vision is: A World Free of MS. Until a cure is found, the NMSS will continue to mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.
What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease which affects the central nervous system. In an MS patient, immune cells in the central nervous system mistakenly attack the myelin sheath which provides a protective coating around nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Although the scientific community is getting closer to understanding what causes MS, an exact cause is still unknown. There are 4 different types of MS: Relapsing-Remitting, Primary Progressive, Secondary Progressive and Progressive Relapsing MS. MS can be a debilitating disease, however it affects everyone differently and there are varied treatment optional available for MS patients.
